Cleveland Cable Company & Brexit - Are EU Ready?

1st November 2020

As the UK appears to be leaving the European Union with no free trade deal in place, we are working with suppliers and customers to ensure a seamless transition. In addition to using manufacturers from across the EU, Cleveland Cable Imports and exports goods globally every day under WTO regulations.

We trade across some of the most complex customs borders around the world including Russia, Kazakhstan, India, and Azerbaijan to name a small number of our destinations. We are therefore confident in our ability to meet the demands of this uncertain but surmountable challenge.

  • In House Imports and Exports team with EORI number and custom freight forwarding already in place
  • European Warehousing facility allowing us to easily send goods via the existing European Road, Rail and Sea Freight transport infrastructure avoiding the customs issues of UK based companies
  • Fully compliant cable products to the European standards of Cenelec, Harmonised, IEC and VDE etc.
  • Fully compliant to CPR 2017 with all cables supplied with Datasheet, Declaration of Performance and CE Certificate
  • Full BASEC support for CPR rated cables as an EU27 Notified body with automated update of all DoP certificates - Notified Body number : 2661
  • Accredited to independent 3rd party approvals, such as BASEC Accredited Stockist, which is a globally recognised approval outwith any other EU approval systems
  • In house cable testing centre accredited to BSI Kitemark under the scope of “Cable testing Verification”. Within our scope is the testing of CY, SY and YY cables and MV Cable meeting all criteria of Independent 3rd party testing and 3 rd party certification.
  • Rigorously tested, 3rd party certified QA system which included quality checks, factory audits by our in house QA team and verification of products to confirm they meet the requirement of BASEC, BSI and our own high standards.
  • Close relationship to worldwide supply chain to provide all relevant compliance and certification when selling goods in the EU
Cleveland Cable (Ireland) Limited

Cleveland Cable Company (Ireland) Limited is a separate trading entity deliberately set up and registered in Dublin in 2016 specifically to deal with the problems that may arise due to the departure of the UK from the European Union. The Dublin site represents €6,000,000 investment in our 4.4 acre site with 52,500 square foot of warehousing and secure storage yard at Poppintree Industrial Estate, Dublin

  • The Company has grown in three years to become the largest single cable distributor in the Republic of Ireland.
  • €15,000,000, stock available in our Dublin warehouse, three times that of our largest Irish competitor
  • Our own fleet of vehicles with lorry mounted cranes to service all 32 counties.
  • All stock delivered direct from our fully audited Manufacturer supply chain to our Dublin facility
  • Approved cable stocks at levels that allow us to satisfy your demands and to provide approved cable from stock, and therefore not subject to unpredictable or unreliable factory lead times.
  • All stock available to be cut to length and provided on a variety of reel sizes as per your exact specification
  • Supported by the resources of Cleveland Cable Company with a UK national infrastructure which has a stockholding of €100,000,000.

In line with our ISO 9001:2015 accreditation, we have been carrying our continued assessment of the effects of Brexit since the UK referendum result was announced in 2016. As a free trade deal with Europe is looking more and more unlikely, we have carried out on site and desktop audits with our major suppliers to ensure that whatever the form of the final Brexit we are unaffected as far as is possible.

This is an ongoing process of Audit, Assessment, Review and Action, and will carry on throughout the Brexit negotiations and beyond. Cleveland Cable Company has undertaken management risk assessments and will continue to do so up to and beyond the end of December 2020 through the transition period. We have identified areas in which we may be affected and have either mitigated those effects or have contingency plans in place to minimise the effect of the UK leaving the EU with or without a trading deal.
